Staple or trend?

Commercial design has seen so many shifts over the years , even just throughout my career. Some trends come and go - I’m still loving the pastel or muted tones, curves and metals and I believe these are more than just trends 👀.

And luckily… some trends have stayed firmly in the past.
Looking at you, artificial grass. Please don’t come back. 😂

Here are 3 “trends” I believe are timeless staples in commercial design:

🌿 Biophilic Design
My personal favourite. Creating a connection to nature through greenery, natural light, textures and organic forms helps support wellbeing and creates spaces people enjoy spending time in.

🪵 Natural Materials
For me, this is an extension of biophilic design. Materials such as timber, stone and natural textures bring warmth, character and longevity — creating interiors that age beautifully rather than date quickly.

🏢 Flexible Spaces
Businesses evolve, and workplaces need to evolve with them. Designing adaptable spaces allows businesses to grow, change and support different ways of working.

✨ KOAB believe great design is about creating spaces that work today, tomorrow, and for years to come balancing aesthetics, functionality, sustainability, and wellbeing.
